Classification Performing Arts General > Performing Arts Technology Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The person seeking credit in this unit standard will be supplied with a design brief by the director or tutor. The brief will be limited to performance text production guidelines, venue, budget; but it should allow for creative input. 2 Respect for ownership of original ideas and cultural sensitivity underpin the learning and teaching in this unit standard. 3 Definitions Performance text refers to performance material which may include written, visual, oral, or combination(s). Theatre refers to performance space which may be within traditional theatre structures or alternative venue. Essential vocabulary refers to knowledge of terminology associated with theatre production, which includes stage left, up stage, down stage, proscenium arch. Problems refer to creative challenges and limitations contained in brief. Agreed production idea is an agreement regarding ideas between at least the designer and tutor/director. 4 Legislation Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and its subsequent amendments. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge associated with set design for stage production. Evidence requirements 1.1 Demonstration uses essential vocabulary for stage and performance space. Range 1.3 mechanisms must include but are not limited to – curtains, flats, cyclorama, gauze. Demonstration explains movement concepts impinging on set design. Demonstration identifies and defines roles in relation to set design. Range director, designer, production manager, production team. Outcome 2 Develop set design concept for stage production. Evidence requirements 2.1 Requirements of design brief for a stage production are identified. 2.2 Set design issues are identified for the specific circumstances. Range 2.3 A range of design ideas is created for development of design concept. Range 2.4 simple graphic form, mock up, brief notes, evaluation of alternatives. A range of set design options is presented for development of design concept. Range 2.5 circumstances may include but are not limited to – text, occasion, venue, social, cultural. one presentation of - oral, written, visual. Agreed presentation ideas are developed and presented as a design concept. Outcome 3 Create a practical model of design concept for stage production. Evidence requirements 3.1 Model matches requirements of original brief. 3.2 Model is consistent with venue parameters and production guidelines. 3.3 A working model is completed which is scaled and practical. 3.4 Presentation is supported by evaluation of process and product.
