People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of installing joinery cabinetry; and install joinery cabinetry items, in residential and commercial buildings. Classification Joinery > Joinery Operational Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must comply with current legislation, codes of practice, and documented site safety procedures for personal, product, and worksite safety. 2 Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995. 3 Cabinetry may include but is not limited to – shop fixtures and fittings, kitchen cabinetry, timber and sheet panelling. 4 Evidence is required of cabinetry produced in the candidate’s workplace or simulated environment. The workplace could include producing cabinetry for shop fit-outs or kitchens on site. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of installing joinery cabinetry in residential and commercial buildings. Evidence requirements 1.1 The installation requirements for floor, walls, and ceiling are described in accordance with working drawing specifications. Range process includes but is not limited to – analyse working drawings, establish site conditions, set quantities of materials, produce setout. 1.3 The procedures for installing cabinetry are described in accordance with working drawings and workplace practice. 1.4 The procedures for trimming and finishing cabinetry are described in accordance with workplace practice. 1.5 The process for attaching and finishing fittings and fixtures to a building is described in terms of workplace practices. 1.6 Any protective measures required for the components are identified and described in terms of workplace practices. Outcome 2 Install joinery cabinetry items in residential and commercial buildings. Evidence requirements 2.1 Cabinetry fittings and fixtures are identified from the working drawings. 2.2 The site conditions are measured and documented in accordance with workplace practices. 2.3 The required fittings and fixtures are calculated and ordered in accordance with workplace practices. 2.4 The cabinetry fittings and fixtures are set out to conform to the working drawings. 2.5 Components are assembled to conform to the working drawings. 2.6 Requirements for fitting the assembled components on-site are identified in terms of their impact on the installation process. 2.7 Assembled components are installed to meet the requirements of the working drawings and job specifications. 2.8 Trimming, finishing, and protection of the cabinetry is completed in accordance with workplace practice. 2.9 Any areas requiring specialist work are identified and managed in accordance with the job specifications.
