This unit standard is for experienced people working in a
joinery workshop producing cabinetry items.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of manufacturing joinery cabinetry items;
manufacture joinery cabinetry items; and assemble joinery
cabinetry items for use in residential and commercial buildings.

Explanatory notes
1
All workplace practices must comply with current legislation, codes of practice, and
documented site safety procedures for personal, product, and worksite safety.

Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to
– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995.

Joinery items must include but are not limited to – HPL clashed flat pressings, timber
tops, cupboard doors and drawers, cupboard carcases.

Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing joinery cabinetry items for use in residential and
commercial buildings.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The process for manufacturing joinery cabinetry items is described.
1.2
Options for assembling joinery cabinetry items are identified and described in
terms of their advantages and disadvantages.
Range
options include but are not limited to – workshop assembly, on-site
assembly.

Outcome 2
Manufacture joinery cabinetry items for use in residential and commercial buildings.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Cabinetry items are identified from the working drawings.
2.2
The required quantity of materials is calculated and ordered in accordance with
workplace practice.
2.3
Material for the cabinetry items is machined to comply with the requirements of
the working drawings and specifications.
2.4
Any required adhesive is applied in accordance with the adhesive
manufacturer’s specifications.
2.5
Trimming, finishing, edging, and protection of the cabinetry items are completed
to the requirements of the specifications or in accordance with workplace
practice.
Outcome 3
Assemble joinery cabinetry items for use in residential and commercial buildings.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Fixing methods are identified from the working drawings and the fixings are
ordered in accordance with workplace practice.
3.2
The cabinetry items are assembled and joints fixed to conform to the
specifications or in accordance with workplace practice.
3.3
Components are assembled to conform to the working drawings and
specifications in accordance with workplace practice.
3.4
Doors and drawers are fitted to the cabinetry items in accordance with
workplace practice.
3.5
Any attachments required are fitted to the cabinetry items in accordance with
the working drawings and specifications.
3.6
Cabinetry items are finished to conform to the specifications.
