This unit standard is for experienced people working in a
joinery workshop producing cabinetry items.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: set up;
operate; and maintain, specialist machinery used to produce
joinery cabinetry items.

Explanatory notes
1
All workplace practices must comply with current legislation, codes of practice, and
documented site safety procedures for personal, product, and worksite safety.

Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to
– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995.
3
Specialist machinery includes – edge bander, hinging machine;
may include but is not limited to – overhead router, presses, formers, dovetailer,
edge trimmer;
evidence is required for a minimum of three (in addition to the two required items).

Machine components are selected and checked in accordance with the job
specifications, legislation, and manufacturer’s specifications.

Outcome 2
Operate specialist machinery used to produce joinery cabinetry items.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Material is machined to meet job specifications.
2.2
Machinery is operated in accordance with job specifications and workplace
practice.
2.3
Operation of machinery is monitored to ensure continuity of process in
accordance with workplace practice.
2.4
Tool and setting adjustments rectify any out of specification materials in
accordance with workplace practice.
2.5
Sub-standard components are identified, rejected, and reported in accordance
with workplace practice.
Outcome 3
Maintain specialist machinery used to produce joinery cabinetry items.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Cutting edges are maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
3.2
Machines are maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
3.3
Any faults are corrected and/or reported in accordance with manufacturer's
specifications and workplace practice.
