New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 18600 version 2 Page 2 of 3 3 All explanations and demonstrations in this unit standard that refer to the needs of an adult with hearing impairment relate to the assessed communication needs of actual clients, or from scenarios created for the purpose of training and/or assessment. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Explain the application of assistive devices for an adult with a hearing impairment. Performance criteria 1.1 The application of assistive devices is explained in terms of the assessed needs and abilities of an adult with a hearing impairment. Range assessed needs may include but are not limited to – level of hearing loss, physical dexterity, sensory ability, personal choice. Element 2 Explain the function, and demonstrate the application and maintenance, of assistive devices for an adult with a hearing impairment. Range may include but is not limited to – on-off, microphone pick-up, battery chargers, cables, batteries, sockets. Performance criteria 2.1 The function and maintenance of assistive devices are explained in terms of the assessed needs of an adult with a hearing impairment and the type of device used. 2.2 Demonstration of the application and maintenance routine ensures the correct functioning of the assistive device. 2.3 Demonstration of trouble-shooting routine and minor repairs ensures correct functioning of the device in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Range trouble-shooting and minor repairs may include but are not limited to – flat batteries, cables, microphone, headsets, switches. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
