Definition
Worksite procedures refers to the documented and/or verbal procedures that include:
worksite rules, business procedures, equipment operating instructions, quality
management systems, and health and safety requirements.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite
safety procedures (where these exceed any applicable code) for personal, product,
and worksite safety, and must comply with obligations required under current
legislation.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act
1986, Sale of Goods Act 1908, Private Investigators and Security Guards Act 1974,
Privacy Act 1993, Building Act 2004, and their associated regulations and
subsequent amendments.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the need to maintain customer confidentiality.
Performance criteria
1.1
Reasons are identified why the details of customers’ transactions are not
divulged to any other party.
1.2
Reasons are identified why all locksmithing records are kept secure and safe,
and unauthorised access is not permitted.
Element 2
Verify right of access to property.
Range
property includes – premises, vehicle, safe.
Performance criteria
2.1
Customer’s right of access to property is verified before undertaking
locksmithing work.
2.2
Right of access by the customer is confirmed following admittance to property.
2.3
Verification of right of access is carried out according to worksite procedures.
Element 3
Demonstrate knowledge of legislation and regulations applying to locksmiths.
Performance criteria
3.1
Retailers’ and consumers’ rights are described in accordance with the relevant
legislation.
Range
Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986, Sale of
Goods Act 1908.
3.2
The obligations on locksmiths are explained in accordance with the Private
Investigators and Security Guards Act 1974.
3.3
The requirements of the design and installation of locking systems are
described in accordance with the specifications given in the Building Act 2004.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
