Elements and Performance Criteria element 1 Plan and prepare for rope installation or replacement. performance criteria 1.1 Work requirements are identified from contracts and layouts, and confirmed if necessary by site inspection, according to worksite procedure. 1.2 Resources required for the job including equipment, materials, tools and personnel are identified, prepared, and transported to the work site according to worksite procedure. 1.3 Number, diameter, type and length of rope is determined and confirmed from records, drawings or site measurements and inspection according to worksite procedure. 1.4 Floor and surfaces adjacent to the work area are protected from soiling and damage by the work process. 1.5 Work area is prepared to provide safe access to and egress from the worksite and to ensure public safety is achieved and maintained by isolation according to worksite procedure. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 14570 28-Jun-16 4 of 6 LIFTS AND ESCALATORS Install or replace lift roping systems 1.6 Roping position for car, counterweight, compensator weight and/or other equipment is calculated or determined from drawings and measured and marked in accordance with enterprise requirements. 1.7 Rope reel cradles and handling facilities are positioned and winching facilities installed according to worksite procedure. element 2 Install or replace the ropes. performance criteria 2.1 Car, counterweight, compensator weight and/or other equipment is positioned for roping and secured for safety according to worksite procedure. 2.2 Equipment is isolated according to worksite procedure. 2.3 Ropes to be replaced are removed from equipment, coiled and prepared for transport without soiling or damaging floor or surfaces adjacent to the worksite, according to worksite procedure. 2.4 New ropes are uncoiled in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and correctly positioned, terminations completed, attached to anchor points on equipment and secured, including any babbitting that is required, according to worksite procedure. 2.5 Equipment is lowered into the ropes, temporary positioning devices removed, and ropes tensioned to equalise load according to worksite procedure. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 14570 28-Jun-16 5 of 6 LIFTS AND ESCALATORS Install or replace lift roping systems 2.6 Equipment is recommissioned, operated, and checked for tension and performance according to worksite procedure. element 3 Carry out completion work for lift roping systems. performance criteria 3.1 Temporary means of providing public safety by isolation is removed, safety operating devices checked for compliance, and equipment returned to service according to worksite procedure. 3.2 Floor and adjacent surface protection is removed and worksite is cleared and cleaned. 3.3 Equipment, tools, ropes, and protection materials are transported from site or disposed of, according to worksite procedure. 3.4 Records are completed according to worksite procedure.
