in the installation or replacement of ropes under supervision;
and carry out completion work for lift roping systems under

engineering worksite, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge
and skills.

Definitions
Worksite procedure refers to the documented
procedures for the enterprise and/or worksite.
Statutory requirements may include but is not limited to
the relevant sections of the New Zealand Building Code
and relevant standards such as the New Zealand
Standard (NZS) 3000:1997, Electrical Installations Buildings, Structures and Premises, and NZS
4332:1997, Non-Domestic Passenger and Goods Lifts.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of
practice and documented worksite safety procedures
(where these exceed code) for personal, product and
worksite safety, and must meet the obligations required
under current legislation. Legislation includes but is not
limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
(1992), and its subsequent amendments.

made in rope length when installing or replacing.

Prepare for rope installation or replacement under supervision.
performance criteria
1.1
Resources required for the job including equipment, materials, tools, and
personnel are prepared, and transported to the work site according to worksite
procedure.
1.2
Floor and surfaces adjacent to the work area are adequately protected from
soiling and damage by the work process.
1.3
Work area is prepared to provide safe access to and egress from the worksite
according to worksite procedure.
1.4
Rope reel cradles and handling facilities are positioned, and winching facilities
installed, according to worksite procedure.

Assist in the installation or replacement of ropes under supervision.
performance criteria
2.1
Car, counterweight, compensator weight, and/or other equipment is positioned
for roping according to worksite procedure.
2.2
Equipment is isolated according to worksite procedure.
2.3
Ropes to be replaced are removed from equipment, coiled and prepared for
transport without soiling or damaging floor or surfaces adjacent to the worksite
according to worksite procedure.
2.4
New ropes are uncoiled in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and
correctly positioned, terminations completed, attached to anchor points on
equipment and secured, including any babbitting that is required, according to
worksite procedure.

Carry out completion work for lift roping systems under supervision.

3.1
Temporary means of providing public safety by isolation is removed according
to worksite procedure.
3.2
Floor and adjacent surface protection is removed and worksite cleared and
cleaned.

3.3
Equipment, tools, ropes, and protection materials are transported from site or
disposed of according to worksite procedure.
3.4
Records are completed according to worksite procedure.
