This unit standard is for people who work in the leather
manufacturing sector of the fellmongery or leather processing
industries.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe
waste treatment and discharge requirements specific to the
workplace; sample, test, and monitor waste treatment and
discharge; operate and maintain waste handling and treatment
equipment; and comply with organisational and statutory
hygiene and safety requirements.

1.1
Waste treatment and disposal methods are described in accordance with
company and local authority requirements.
Range

oxidation, chrome precipitation, screening, grease flotation,
balancing, pH adjustment, sedimentation;
evidence of two disposal methods is required.

1.2
Sampling, testing, recording, and reporting procedures are described in
accordance with company and local authority requirements.
1.3
Procedures to be followed in the event of unauthorised discharges are
described in accordance with company and local authority requirements.

Evidence requirements
4.1
Company supplied clothing, and hygiene and safety equipment are worn and
used in accordance with organisational and statutory requirements.
4.2
Work methods comply with specified organisational and statutory requirements
to minimise the risk injuries to the operator and others.
4.3
Any unsafe and unhygienic conditions are identified and reported to supervisory
staff in accordance with organisational requirements.
4.4
Equipment, operator and work area cleanliness comply with organisational and
statutory requirements.
