People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify yarns; receive yarn into store; store yarn; distribute yarn to production; and maintain storage and distribution records. Classification Textiles Manufacture > Carpet Manufacture Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Plant safety practices and procedures comply with Health and Safety in Employment (HSE) Act 1992, and workplace procedures. 2 Workplace productivity and quality requirements are met. 3 It is recommended that persons seeking credit for this unit standard also have Unit 10852, Operate a powered industrial lift truck (PILT) fitted with attachments on a worksite, or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Evidence requirements 2.1 Receipt checks are carried out according to workplace practice. Range 2.2 batch identification, quantity, shade, other checks required in the workplace. Receipt documentation is carried out according to workplace practice. Outcome 3 Store yarn. Evidence requirements 3.1 Yarn storage location is selected according to work instruction. Range 3.2 Yarn is handled according to workplace safety procedures. Range 3.3 no mixing of batches, efficient use of space, location suits production requirement. people, product, equipment. Yarn is stored in a stable stack according to workplace practice and protected against damage. Range protected from damage – fade, moisture, dirt, and contamination. Outcome 4 Distribute yarn to production. Evidence requirements 4.1 Yarn conforms to work instruction. Range type, quantity, yarn lot, shade. 4.2 Yarn is moved safely to work site according to work instruction and workplace practice. 4.3 Lifting and moving equipment is selected and used according to workplace practice. 4.4 Yarn is moved without damage to yarn or workplace equipment. Evidence requirements 5.1 Records identify the current location of yarn, and record other batch information according to workplace practice. 5.2 Records are updated when yarn is used or moved.
