People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to: select or substitute a fabric; and select or substitute a fabric to meet performance requirements. Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; and Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996; and local body regulations. 2 Definition Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare to select or substitute a fabric. Evidence requirements 1.1 Customer requirements are identified in accordance with company requirements. Manufacturer performance specifications for a range of fabrics required for the job are determined in accordance with job specifications. Outcome 2 Select or substitute a fabric to meet performance requirements. Evidence requirements 2.1 Alternative fabrics for a required product are given in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. Range 2.2 fabric specifications and test data. Fabric is selected to suit end use of the required product in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. Range cost suitability, longevity, environment, aesthetics, customer requirements. 2.3 Fabric is checked to ensure its properties meet the legislative requirements of the end product in accordance with company requirements. 2.4 Fabric is allocated for the product in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. 2.5 Fabric is checked for flaws in accordance with the manufacturer specifications and company requirements.
