Purpose This unit standard is for people who work in the industrial textile fabrication industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify customer requirements and select pattern material; mark out pattern shape; and make up a pattern, in the industrial textile fabrication industry.

2 Definition

– company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements.

1.2 Pattern material is selected to suit job in hand in accordance with company requirements.

Evidence requirements
2.1 Calculations are made to enable marking out of pattern in accordance with pattern specifications and company requirements.
Range circular geometry, Pythagoras’ theorem, regular and irregular areas, volumes of regular and irregular solids.
2.2 Required shape is developed in accordance with pattern specifications and company requirements.
Range parallel line, radial line, triangulation, perpendiculars, arcs, angles, circles.
2.3 Required shape is marked out on the selected pattern material in accordance with pattern specifications and company requirements.
Range pencil, felt pen, scriber, compass, straight edge, dividers.

Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements.

Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety.
Outcome 3
Make up a pattern in the industrial textile fabrication industry.
Evidence requirements
Tools are used that will enable the pattern parts to be cut out in accordance with pattern specifications.
Range knife, scissors, tin snips, saw, file.

Pattern is fabricated to the required shape and finish in accordance with company requirements.
Range adhesive, rivet, screw, nail, weld.
