Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work in the industrial textile
fabrication industry. People credited with this unit standard are
able to: select material to be welded and set up the hot air
welder; and weld fabric pieces together.

Definition
Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality
specifications, and legislative requirements.

Welding aids are selected to suit the job in accordance with the manufacturer
specifications and company requirements.
Range

nozzles.
Welder is set up to suit material and job specifications in accordance with
company requirements.

Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with
legislative requirements.

Outcome 2
Weld fabric pieces together.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Material to be welded is prepared and pieces produced in accordance with
company requirements.
Range
includes but is not limited to – correct cutting process, clean, dust
free, dry, free of oil and grease.
2.2
Sample of job material is welded and adjustments made until a weld is proved
in warp and weft directions in accordance with company requirements.
2.3
Job pieces are welded in the required position and checked in accordance with
company requirements.
Range
includes but is not limited to – correct position, flat, wrinkle free,
correct adhesion, free of marks and burns.
2.4
On completion of job, welding machine is cleaned and stored in accordance
with company requirements.
2.5
Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with
legislative requirements.

equipment, and machine safety.
