People credited with this unit standard are able to: select material to be welded and set up the high frequency welder; and weld fabric pieces together. Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Definition Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Select material to be welded and set up the high frequency welder. Range either mobile or bench mounted. Range 1.3 Welder is set up to suit material and job specifications in accordance with company requirements. Range 1.4 includes but is not limited to – pressure, power, welding time, cooling time, width of weld, number and type of weld. Energy transmission straps are inspected for safety and suitability in accordance with company requirements. Range 1.5 includes but is not limited to – bars, nozzles, fabric guides, barrier material, welding dies. material, size, correctly attached. Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Outcome 2 Weld fabric pieces together. Evidence requirements 2.1 Material to be welded is prepared and pieces produced in accordance with company requirements. Range includes but is not limited to – correct cutting process, clean, dust free, dry, free of oil and grease, salts and conductive particles. 2.2 Sample of job material is welded and adjustments made until a weld is proved in warp and weft directions in accordance with company requirements. 2.3 Job pieces are welded in the required position and checked in accordance with company requirements. Range 2.4 includes but is not limited to – correct position, flat, wrinkle free, correct adhesion, free of marks and burns. On completion of job, welding machine is cleaned and stored in accordance with company requirements.
