People credited with this unit standard are able to perform: seam work; and finishing work, in the industrial textile fabrication industry. Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Definition Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Perform seam work in the industrial textile fabrication industry. Evidence requirements 1.1 Seam type is selected to job specifications and company requirements. Range 1.4 at workplace required speed, using stitch length for the material being sewn and the strength of seam required. Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Outcome 2 Perform finishing work in the industrial textile fabrication industry. Evidence requirements 2.1 Hemming is carried out to job specifications and company requirements. Range may include but is not limited to – single hem on selvedge edge, double turned hem. 2.2 Bias binding is sewn in accordance with company requirements. 2.3 Ropes are attached as specified by customer and in accordance with company requirements. 2.4 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements.
