Classification Diving > Diving - Recreational Available grade Achieved Entry information Critical health and safety prerequisites Unit 4384, Scuba dive and perform rescues in open water to a maximum depth of 18 metres or Unit 4383, Snorkel dive with safety, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Explanatory notes 1 Range indicator: preselected objects could include but not limited to fish, shellfish, bottles, crustaceans, and artefacts as agreed before assessment between the diver and assessor. 2 Industry technical and safety criteria are specified in the training manuals of the agencies approved by the Sport Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito). 3 This unit standard is expiring The Historic Places Act 1993 protects archaeological sites. It prevents divers taking from damaging, destroying, or modifying the site. 4 The Marine Reserves Act 1971 establishes and protects the flora and fauna found in marine reserves. 5 The Fisheries Act 1983 and its Regulations and Notices establish criteria for size and number of catch. 6 All workplace diving practice must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995. All practice must also comply with Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Act 1992 and the Occupational Safety and Health guidelines for Occupational Diving. Evidence requirements 1.1 The underwater dive plan meets industry technical and safety criteria. 1.2 Exposure protection and equipment selected match the diver’s build and experience, according to industry safety criteria. 1.3 Legislation is explained in relation to the object to be hunted and collected. Range 1.4 Historic Places Act 1993, Marine Reserves Act 1971, and applicable Fishing Regulations and Notices. The underwater dive practice meets industry technical and safety criteria. Evidence requirements 3.1 Collection decisions are justified in terms of impact on the surrounding environment. 3.2 Collection of preselected objects impacts minimally on nearby environment.
