Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to instruct
clients to plan a dive to hunt and collect preselected objects
underwater, and to hunt and collect preselected objects during
a dive.

Entry is restricted to those in possession of the entry-level
certification as recognised by the New Zealand Underwater
Recreational Training Council (NZURTC) or equivalent, as
determined by the Sport Fitness and Recreation Industry
Training Organisation.

Range indicator: preselected objects could include but not limited to fish, shellfish,
bottles, crustaceans, and artefacts as agreed before assessment between the diver
and instructor.

The Historic Places Act 1993 protects archaeological sites. It prevents divers taking
from, damaging, destroying, or modifying the site.

The Marine Reserves Act 1971 establishes and protects the flora and fauna found in
marine reserves.

The Fisheries Act 1996 and its regulations and notices establish criteria for size and
number of catch. Divers should be aware of those that are applicable to their area
and purpose.

All workplace diving practice must comply with the requirements of the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations
1995. All practice must also comply with Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and

Compensation Act 2001 and the Occupational Safety and Health guidelines for
Occupational Diving.

All training providers assessing against any instruction diving unit standard must
ensure that the training is conducted by a qualified instructor currently registered with
one of the listed agencies: National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI),
Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Schools International
(SSI), Confédération Mondiale des Activitiés Subaquatiques (CMAS), International
Diving Educators Association (IDEA), (or an equivalent, determined by Sfrito, that
meets the requirements of the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC), the
candidate’s instructor must provide training in accordance with the standards and
procedures of the respective training agency.

Instruction includes assessment to ensure that clients’ dive plan meets industry
technical and safety criteria.

Instruction includes assessment to ensure that clients’ selection of exposure
protection and equipment matches their build and experience and meets
industry safety criteria.
1.3
Instruction includes assessment to ensure that clients’ explanation of legislation
is in relation to the object to be hunted and collected.

Instruct clients to collect preselected objects during a dive.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Instruction includes assessment to ensure that the clients’ collection decisions
are justified in terms of impact on the surrounding environment.
3.2
Instruction includes assessment to ensure that the clients’ collection of the
objects impacts minimally on the nearby environment.
3.3
Instruction includes assessment to ensure that the clients’ collection complies
with legislation.
3.4
Instruction includes assessment to ensure that the clients’ dive meets the
industry technical and safety criteria.
