Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Identify status of deer.
Performance criteria
1.1
Age group, sex, and condition score of deer are identified by observation.
1.2
Species and classes of deer are identified by observation.
1.3
Behaviour patterns of deer are described in accordance with sex.
Range
hinds, hinds with fawns, stags.
Element 2
Maintain records of deer.
Range
methods of weighing may include but are not limited to – scales, weight band.
Performance criteria
2.1
Equipment is prepared and used in accordance with prior instructions of the
supervisor and according to manufacturer’s instructions.
2.2
Deer are handled for identification and weighing in a manner which does not
cause undue stress or risk of injury to other deer or people.
2.3
Weighing is carried out as directed by the supervisor.
2.4
Records are maintained as directed by the supervisor.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
