Performance criteria
1.1
The construction, operation, and capability of the components on a wiredrawing
line are described, using enterprise equipment.
Range

The construction and operation of types of wiredrawing dies are described.

components may include – pay-off, diebox, capstan, internal
cooling system, annealer, tinner, accumulator, spooler, main drive,
control unit.

The construction and operation of the ancillary equipment on a wiredrawing line
are described, using enterprise equipment.

Element 2
Change dies, set up and run a wiredrawing line.
Range
evidence is required for two dies for wiredrawn products, each product of

Performance criteria

Line set up information is interpreted in accordance with enterprise
requirements.
2.2
Dies are selected and strung in sequence, in accordance with enterprise
procedure.
2.3
Die changes are carried out in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Performance criteria
3.1
Routine wiredrawing faults are identified and corrected in accordance with
enterprise procedure.

Causes of wirebreaks are identified and corrected in accordance with enterprise
procedure.

3.3
routine wiredrawing faults include – non-conforming: diameter,
ovality, surface appearance, colour, inclusions, elongation, tensile
strength, weight, wrap.
causes of wirebreaks may include – raw material contamination,
die wear, die build up, faulty capstan bands, faulty wire welds;
evidence is required for identification and correction of one actual
cause, and knowledge of how to correct three other causes.
Wiredrawing production faults are reported in accordance with enterprise
procedure.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
