NZQA registered unit standard 27638 version 1 Page 1 of 3 Title Provide client service and care and assist the operator to prepare for service in a beauty salon environment Level 2 Purpose Credits 3 This unit standard is for entry level learners in the beauty therapy industry who will assist in a beauty salon environment by welcoming clients for services and assisting the operator to prepare for service. People credited with this unit standard are able to provide client service and care and assist the operator to prepare for service in a beauty salon environment. This is a core component of all beauty therapy services and underpins performance in all practical aspects of the trade. Classification Beauty Services > Beauty Therapy Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Salon requirements refer to any policies, procedures, and requirements of the company and/or workplace involved, and any ethical codes of relevant professional management, which collectively provide a standard that applies to all competent performances in this unit standard. It is assumed that such salon requirements exist in all companies and/or workplaces. Service to follow may include but is not limited to – manicure, facial, massage. Operator refers in this unit standard to any salon operator who is working on clients within the salon environment. Workstation refers to beauty therapy treatment areas within the beauty salon. Salon environment may be a workplace and/or training salon. 2 Salon requirements must be adhered to for all aspects of this unit standard. 3 All performances in this unit standard must comply with the requirements of: Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Privacy Act 1993, Health Act 1956, and their subsequent amendments. 4 Assessment against this unit standard will include evidence collected over a period of 10 consecutive scheduled working days. The 10 consecutive scheduled working days should allow for, but not include, valid absences. NZ Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation Inc SSB Code 8134 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 27638 version 1 Page 2 of 3 5 Assessment against this unit standard must not be in the form of a role-play, and will take place within the beauty salon environment where the candidate is employed or on work experience or in training. 6 Performance of the outcomes in this unit standard must be within the limits of the professional expertise of the candidate. 7 In all dealings with clients, personal presentation, including personal hygiene, must at all times be of a standard that complies with salon requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Provide client service and care and assist the operator to prepare for service in a beauty salon environment. Evidence requirements 1.1 Client is greeted in a timely, discreet, and courteous manner, and their coat and/or belongings are stored. 1.2 Operator is consulted to determine the service to follow. Range 1.3 includes but is not limited to – client name, technique and/or treatment. Client is asked to complete a client information form according to the service to follow. Range includes but is not limited to – answering any client queries about the client information form, referring any client questions to the operator when necessary. 1.4 Client is ushered to a workstation according to the service to follow. 1.5 Resources are collected and made available for operator at workstation. Range 1.6 When requested by the operator, client is given a moisturising hand and/or foot effleurage prior to the service to follow in accordance with salon requirements. Range 1.7 may include but is not limited to – product, client information form, tools, equipment. pre-compress, application of product, flow of massage movement effleurage, removal of excess product; The client’s coat and/or belongings are retrieved from storage and returned in the same condition they were received.
