This unit standard is for entry level learners in the beauty therapy industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe key concepts related to personal presentation in a commercial beauty salon; and maintain personal presentation for a commercial beauty salon.
This is a core component of beauty therapy practice and underpins performance in all practical aspects of the trade.

1 Definitions
Salon requirements refer to any policies, procedures, and requirements of the company and/or workplace involved, and any ethical codes of relevant professional management, which collectively provide a standard that applies to all competent performances in this unit standard. It is assumed that such salon requirements exist in all companies and/or workplaces.
Beauty salon means a workplace in which the candidate is employed or on work experience.
2 Salon requirements must be adhered to for all aspects of this unit standard.
3 Assessment against this unit standard will include evidence collected over a period of 10 consecutive scheduled working days. The 10 consecutive scheduled working days should allow for, but not include, valid absences.
4 Assessment will take place within the commercial beauty salon where the candidate is employed or on work experience.

Evidence requirements
Facial features are described in terms of their different types. 1.1
Range facial features include but are not limited to shape.

1.2 Skin tones are described in terms of their features and differences.
Range skin tones include but are not limited to
– warm, cool, ruddy, sallow.
1.3 Skin types are described in terms of their features and differences.
Range skin types include but are not limited to – dry, oily, combination, sensitive.
1.4 Own facial features, skin tone, and skin type are identified and described in terms of their influence on personal presentation decisions.
Outcome 2
Maintain personal presentation for a commercial beauty salon.
Evidence requirements
Skin care regime is maintained to meet the needs of own skin type. 2.1
2.2 Make up is applied and maintained in a manner that compliments own facial features and skin tones, and meets salon requirements.
2.3 Nails are shaped and/or painted in a manner that meets salon requirements.

NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
