Recommended skills and knowledge Unit 10121, Demonstrate knowledge of rotary die cutting machinery in the corrugated packaging industry, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Remove the die on completion of a production run. Range 1.2 resettings may include but are not limited to – machine ‘zeroing’, opening machine, releasing impression, releasing brake. Die is unbolted and removed in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 2 Use production order documentation to select a die for a new production run. Evidence requirements 2.1 Production order for the job is confirmed against the production schedule in accordance with workplace practices. 2.2 The die is selected and confirmed against production order documentation in accordance with workplace practices. 2.3 The die is checked for damage and any damage is reported in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 3 Mount the new die on the die cylinder. Evidence requirements 3.1 The machine is set in accordance with workplace practices. Range procedures may include but are not limited to – machinery being ‘zero-ed’, centring die cylinder, releasing impression, engaging brake. 3.2 The die and stripping componentry are securely mounted in accordance with workplace practices. 3.3 The lead edge of the die is at the zero or lead edge line of the die cylinder. 3.4 Where the die is in two or more pieces, the second and subsequent pieces are aligned with the first piece to within ± 1.0mm. 3.5 Machine is confirmed as being ‘zero-ed’ prior to commencing production running. Range operating manual, workplace practices. Evidence requirements 4.1 Machine start up, shutdown and emergency procedures in the workplace are explained. 4.2 Hazard control measures, as circulated by the company, are described and followed. 4.3 Hazards or potential hazards in the workplace are identified and reported in accordance with workplace practices.
