Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 3690 version 7 Page 2 of 4 Evidence requirements 1.1 Machine start up, shut down, and emergency procedures in the workplace are explained. 1.2 Risk awareness and hazard control measures, as circulated by the company, are described. 1.3 Hazards and potential hazards in the workplace are identified and reported in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 2 Check documentation and confirm requirements for the job are available. Evidence requirements 2.1 Job documentation is checked to ensure that all specifications for the process being undertaken are complete and any discrepancies are reported in accordance with workplace practices. 2.2 Equipment and material requirements, as determined by the job specifications, are confirmed as available. 2.3 Packing materials are selected to meet the requirements of the job specifications. Outcome 3 Make ready to meet the requirements of the job. Evidence requirements 3.1 Feeder is set to transport the blank, feed belts are clean, and timing chains are set. 3.2 Forming block is attached to suit the blank. 3.3 Forming cage is set to facilitate accurate make up of tray. 3.4 Glue and delivery systems, and collapsing unit are positioned to the blank. 3.5 Trial run is undertaken on the machine to ensure that trays are accurately formed. 3.6 Quality of the tray is confirmed against the job specifications ensuring that all requirements have been met. 3.7 Counting system is set and adjusted to meet the packing requirements as set out in the job specifications. Evidence requirements 4.1 Packing requirements are determined to meet the specifications in the job documentation. 4.2 A continuous supply of packing materials is ensured. Outcome 5 Run the machine in accordance with workplace practices. Evidence requirements 5.1 Machine is run at an output level consistent with maintaining the required production standards and quality. 5.2 Quality control checks are maintained throughout the run. Range 5.3 checks may include but are not limited to – folding, gluing, printing, scuffing, cutting and creasing, marking. Packing is overseen to ensure that customer’s requirements are met. Outcome 6 Clean and carry out maintenance on the machinery being operated, in accordance with workplace practices. Evidence requirements 6.1 Machinery is inspected and cleaned. Range 6.2 may include but is not limited to – glue system (rollers, stereo, pots), belts, shafts, rollers, glue guns, glue nozzles. Machinery is adjusted and maintained to ensure efficient operation.
