Purpose
This unit standard is for people working or intending to work in
a food processing factory which uses automated production
equipment. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
use safe working practices; prepare to toast or dry cereal
products using continuous automated ovens and related
equipment; toast or dry cereal products using continuous
automated ovens and related equipment; and store toasted or
dried cereal products using manual or automated systems.

Range
Products are extruded or coated cereal products.
Equipment includes electric or gas continuous automated ovens.
Related equipment includes conveyors and may also include but is not limited to:
elevators, feeding systems.

Definitions
Continuous automated oven refers to a temperature controlled oven which has an
automated conveyor travelling through it carrying product for toasting or drying.
Organisational procedures refers to documents that include: worksite rules, codes,
and practices; equipment operating instructions; production specifications;
documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements.
PPE refers to personal protective equipment and may include but is not limited to:
protective clothing; gloves; safety glasses, headwear, and footwear; hearing
protection; safety devices.

Competence is to be demonstrated on three occasions of toasting or drying, and
storing cereal products using continuous automated ovens.

accordance with organisational procedures.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Ovens and related equipment are operated in accordance with organisational
procedures.
3.2
Products are conveyed into continuous automated ovens in accordance with
organisational procedures.
3.3
Products are toasted or dried in accordance with product specifications and
organisational procedures.

4.1
Conveyor and storage equipment is clean, free from contamination, and
operational in accordance with organisational procedures.
4.2
Toasted or dried products are conveyed and stored in accordance with
organisational procedures.
4.3
Variations in equipment are identified, and rectified and/or reported in
accordance with organisational procedures.
4.4
Products are monitored during storage process and variations are identified,
and rectified and/or reported in accordance with organisational procedures.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.
