This unit standard is intended for people who are required to apply knowledge of livestock selection to a livestock farming system.

1 Candidates are expected to apply understanding of this topic to specific farming industry contexts. Examples of contexts include beef, dairy, deer, goats or sheep.
2 Candidates are not expected to demonstrate understanding of the stages of meiosis, or perform statistical calculations.
3 Demonstrate understanding may be assessed in a number of ways, which could include ability to complete practical tasks, if it is clear that the understanding is essential underpinning knowledge to the task/s, and that the task/s could not be completed without the candidate having that knowledge.
4 Performance of all aspects of this unit standard should comply with the Welfare Code relevant to the type of livestock with which the candidate is involved, Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, sustainable practices, and on farm procedures.
