People credited with this unit standard are able to: interpret company processing requirements; set up wet wheeling machinery for operation; operate wet wheeling machinery and wet wheel light leather; describe the effects of incorrect light leather wet wheeling operations; describe processing stages preceding and following light leather wet wheeling operations; demonstrate team-work; and comply with organisational and statutory hygiene and safety requirements. Outcome 2 Set up wet wheeling machinery for operation. Evidence requirements 2.1 Safety checks prior to machinery start-up are carried out in accordance with company requirements. 2.2 Any machines failing safety checks are reported in accordance with company requirements. 2.3 Machinery adjustments meet company specifications for the leather type and quality required. 2.4 Wet wheeling machinery is set up in accordance with leather processing requirements, production planning priorities, and company specifications. 2.5 Set-up permits leather to be wet wheeled within company specified tolerances for the quality required. This unit standard is Evidence requirements expiring Outcome 3 Operate wet wheeling machinery and wet wheel light leather. 3.1 Start-up, operation, monitoring, maintenance, shutdown and cleaning of vacuum drying machinery meet company requirements. 3.2 Leather is inspected, assessed, presented, and wet wheeled in accordance with company method and sequence specifications. 3.3 Wet wheeling machinery is adjusted to suit leather quality requirements and production priorities. 3.4 Any machine stoppages, blockages, and breakdowns are reported in accordance with company specifications. 3.5 Leather batches are processed in accordance with production priorities and company quality and speed requirements. Outcome 4 Describe the effects of incorrect light leather wet wheeling operations. Evidence requirements 4.1 The effects of incorrect wet wheeling operations are described in terms of the cost to the tannery. Range effects include but are not limited to – damage, requirements for rework, customer dissatisfaction, financial loss. Outcome 5 Describe processing stages preceding and following light leather wet wheeling operations. Range processing stages include but are not limited to – key processing steps, production outcomes, quality outcomes, effects of non-conformance. Outcome 7 Comply with organisational and statutory hygiene and safety requirements. Evidence requirements 7.1 Company supplied clothing, and hygiene and safety equipment are worn and used in accordance with organisational and statutory requirements. 7.2 Work methods comply with specified organisational and statutory requirements to minimise the risk injuries to the operator and others. 7.3 Any unsafe and unhygienic conditions are identified and reported to supervisory staff in accordance with organisational requirements.
