Explanatory notes 1 Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the following: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE); Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Health and Safety in Employment (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2013; approved codes of practice issued pursuant to the HSE Act; Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. 2 Any new, amended or replacement Acts, regulations, standards, codes of practice, guidelines, or authority requirements or conditions affecting this unit standard will take precedence for assessment purposes, pending review of this unit standard. 3 Learners must possess the class of licence required for the vehicle to be used. 4 Definitions Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to legislation, regulations, guidelines, standard operating procedures, manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements. These may include but are not limited to – Eimco Personnel Vehicle (EPV), Personnel Equipment Transporter (PET), Special Mine Vehicle (SMV) (also known as Drift Runner), Toyota Land Cruiser adapted for underground use, Mine Bus. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe the operational features, performance, and limitations of mobile machines in an underground operation. Evidence requirements 1.1 The operational features and performance of mobile machines are described in terms of transportation of people and equipment in an underground operation. Range may include but is not limited to – safety features, interlocks, instruments, controls, operating procedures, capacity, dimensions, fire-fighting equipment, protection. Outcome 2 Describe safe work practices and conditions for operating mobile machines in an underground operation. Evidence requirements 2.1 The safe work practices and conditions for machine operation are described in accordance with industry best practice, manufacturer’s instructions, and company procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – gradient, speed, lighting, accessibility, ventilation, roadway conditions, roof and rib security, compressed air, water, electrical services, ERZ (explosion risk zone) areas, interlocks and alarm levels, instrument readings, parking areas. Range evidence is required for one mobile machine. Evidence requirements 3.1 Checks on the vehicle are completed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Range 3.2 availability, suitability, capacity, walk-around checks, pre-start checks, documentation. Identified defects are reported and managed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Outcome 4 Load and transport people and materials using a mobile machine in an underground operation. Range evidence is required for one mobile machine. Evidence requirements 4.1 Load is secured in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – people, materials, load capacity, types of loads, incompatible substances, overloading, over size. 4.2 Hazardous substances are loaded and transported in accordance with regulatory and company procedures. 4.3 Load is transported in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – operational checks, travel route, gradient, speed, lighting, accessibility, ventilation, roadway conditions, roof and rib security, compressed air, water, and electrical services, ERZ areas, atmospheric monitoring. Outcome 5 Unload and shut down a mobile machine, and complete documentation. Range evidence is required for one mobile machine.
