Those credited with this unit standard are able to remove damaged suspension parts, and replace suspension parts. Classification Motor Industry > Panelbeating Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation and regulations (and subsequent amendments) are relevant to this unit standard and must be followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992; – Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations, 1990 and Guide to Vehicle Standards (MOT Guides 1 and 2), (available from Standards New Zealand, telephone 04 498 5991). 2 When the evidence requirements state 'company guidelines', it is assumed that it is to the same standard as the product and vehicle manufacturers' standards. 3 Because of the particular nature of this unit standard it is essential that assessment be carried out in a commercial workplace under normal working conditions. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Remove damaged suspension parts. Range front and rear. Evidence requirements 1.1 Tools and equipment to enable the suspension parts to be removed are identified, and are used according to manufacturer's specifications. 1.2 Ancillary fittings are identified, and are isolated and/or removed according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications without damage to them and other vehicle parts. Range strut, shock absorbers, springs, control arms, stabiliser bar, beam, sensors, compressor and air spring on air suspensions. 1.4 Tools and equipment are put away in their place, and the work area is clean according to company guidelines. 1.5 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Range personal safety; safety of other people; vehicle safety; workshop safety; environmental safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Outcome 2 Replace suspension parts. Range front and rear. Evidence requirements 2.1 Tools and equipment to enable the suspension parts to be replaced are identified, and are used according to manufacturer's specifications. 2.2 Suspension parts are procured and fitted, and are operating according to manufacturer's specifications. 2.3 Ancillary fittings are fitted, and operate according to vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Range brake system, steering components. 2.4 Wheel alignment is according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. 2.5 Tools and equipment are put away in their place and the work area is clean according to company guidelines. 2.6 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
