Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Locate and identify procedures, documentation, and equipment for installing and testing cathodic protection points, anodes, and insulation joints. Performance criteria 1.1 Company procedures for installing and testing cathodic protection points, anodes, and insulation joints are located and interpreted in relation to specified job requirements. 1.2 Job instructions are confirmed in accordance with company procedures. Range instructions include – site location, utility plans, specifications, consents, easements. 1.3 Potential environmental and safety hazards are identified in accordance with company procedures. 1.4 Equipment, components, and materials for installing and testing cathodic protection points, anodes, and insulation joints are identified and described in terms of type and function. Range wiring, connections, fittings, insulation kit, multimeter, test leads, continuity bond, tools, cad weld, wrapping, gas detector. 1.5 Equipment is described in terms of potential hazards of incorrect application and operation and the steps to avoid them are described in accordance with company procedures. 1.6 Resource requirements are identified and sourced in accordance with company procedures. Performance criteria 2.1 Safety hazards are identified, and isolated, removed, or minimised in accordance with company procedures. Range 2.2 Pipe work is prepared for cathodic protection in accordance with company procedures. Range 2.3 may include – signage, barriers, personal protective equipment, safe access and egress, fire, explosion, asphyxiation, temporary traffic control, environmental protection, excavations, gas escapes. sand blasting, wire brushing, priming, scraping, solvents. Cathodic protection is installed in accordance with company procedures. Range anodes, test points, insulation kit, wrapping. 2.4 Installation equipment is used in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer’s instructions. 2.5 The installation is checked and tested in accordance with company procedures. Range 2.6 Holiday detector, multimeter. Pipe work is monitored for cathodic protection in accordance with company procedures. Element 3 Reinstate site. Performance criteria 3.1 Equipment and materials left temporarily on site are stored safely and securely, or arrangements are made for their collection in accordance with company procedures. 3.2 Tools, equipment, and materials are removed from site in accordance with job requirements and company procedures. 3.3 Worksite is reinstated and made safe in accordance with company procedures. Performance criteria 4.1 Information is communicated to other parties, both internal and external, in accordance with company procedures. Range 4.2 may include but is not limited to – special conditions, completion notice, additional work. Records and documents are completed and processed in accordance with company procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
