Purpose This unit standard is for people working as gas retailers or gas appliance retailers. People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare applications for gas connections; and provide quotes, order and invoice gas connections.

3 Definitions

Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements.

They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements;

Connection means the supply of gas to a property;

Customer refers to but is not limited to – property owner, developer, channel partner, service provider;

LPG means liquefied petroleum gas.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Prepare applications for gas connections.

Performance criteria

1.1 Type of connection is determined from the customer’s request in accordance with company procedures.

Range natural gas, LPG; includes but is not limited to – pressure availability, pressure requirements.

1.2 Procedures for processing connection applications are processed in accordance with the connection supplier’s requirements.

Range connections – natural gas, LPG; procedures include but are not limited to – sequence, time-frame, constraints, documentation, information required.

1.3 Preparation provides volume calculations for all appliances to be connected to supply.

Range evidence is required of converting between kW/h, MJ/h, GJ/h, and m 3 /h; connections include but are not limited to

– more than one appliance.

1.4 Preparation ensures that the connection will comply with legislative requirements and company procedures.

Range includes but is not limited to – meter location, cylinder location.

1.5 Application is processed in accordance with company procedures.

Application is documented and submitted in accordance with suppliers’ requirements.

Range supplier

– network operator, gas retailer, meter owner; suppliers’ requirements include but are not limited to – appliance or equipment type, volume of annual gas use, capacity requirements, appliance or equipment rating, meter position, cylinder location, topography, length of service.

Element 2

Provide quotes for gas connections.

Range standard, additional terms and conditions.

Performance criteria

2.1 Prices for connections are determined in accordance with company procedures.

2.2 Quotations are prepared in accordance with customer requirements and company procedures.

Element 3

Quotations for connecting gas for the customer are presented in accordance with company procedures.

Order and invoice gas connections.

Performance criteria

3.1 Documentation related to the connection is confirmed with gas connection suppliers in accordance with suppliers’ requirements.

Range suppliers may include

– network operator, gas retailer, meter operator.

3.2 Communication is maintained with suppliers and customer until connection has been completed.

3.3 Invoicing and documentation are completed in accordance with company procedures.

Please note

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The

AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
