Purpose This unit standard is intended for people who are members of the New

Zealand Cadet Forces. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe basic concepts of risk management, and complete basic risk management documentation for NZCF activities.

2 All knowledge and practice requirements must comply with the relevant environmental, regulatory, and legislative requirements, including the Health and

Safety in Employment Act 1992, as well as the policy and training manuals for NZCF,

RNZN, NZA and/or RNZAF.

3 Training manuals relevant to this unit standard include NZCF manuals 155 (SCC),

156 (NZCC), 157 (ATC), 161 (Risk Management) available from the NZCF, New

4 Definitions

ATC is the Air Training Corps of NZCF;

NZA is the New Zealand Army;

NZCC is the New Zealand Cadet Corps of NZCF;

NZCF is the New Zealand Cadet Forces;

RNZN is the Royal New Zealand Navy;

RNZAF is the Royal New Zealand Air Force;

SCC is the Sea Cadet Corps of NZCF.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Describe basic concepts of risk management.

Performance criteria

1.1 The description defines the term risk in accordance with NZCF training manuals.

1.2 The description explains the importance of managing risk in terms of people, equipment, and environment.

1.3 The description explains risk management terms in accordance with NZCF training manuals.

Element 2

Range retain, minimise, eliminate, isolate, transfer.

Complete basic risk management documentation for NZCF activities.

Range three different activities.

Performance criteria

2.1 NZCF Cadet Risk Analysis Management (RAM) forms are completed in accordance with NZCF training manuals.

Please note

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The

AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
