NZQA Expiring unit standard Title Design layouts for signs Level 2 1034 version 9 Page 1 of 3 Credits Purpose 20 This unit standard is for entrants in the signmaking industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to produce design roughs, and a finished design. Classification Graphic Arts > Signmaking Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The candidate will produce the layout of a sign which is two dimensional and not computer drawn. 2 Candidates should produce sufficient layouts to cover the ranges indicated below. Range 1.4 includes but is not limited to – legibility, purpose, function, fashion, company/client image, formal, informal. Graphic skills are demonstrated in design roughs and reflect design brief. Range 1.6 consideration to be given to – primary, secondary and intermediate colours, complementary, analogous, monochromatic, polychromatic, split complementary colour schemes. Principles governing the selection of typeface are demonstrated in the design roughs. Range 1.5 1034 version 9 Page 2 of 3 includes but is not limited to – translation of photos and images to line drawings, manipulation of images using projection equipment. Design of rough is refined to client requirements and final rough is within design and budget constraints. Outcome 2 Produce a finished design. Evidence requirements 2.1 Design complies with job specifications. 2.2 Design is completed to client satisfaction.
