People credited with this unit standard are able to identify harvesting and packaging standards for a horticulture crop in a recognised horticulture sector, and apply and monitor quality crop harvesting and packaging practices according to industry standards. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 2814 version 4 Page 2 of 3 Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Identify harvesting and packaging standards for a horticulture crop in a recognised horticulture sector. Performance criteria 1.1 Quality standards are identified for a specific crop. Range 1.2 market, producer organisation, industry, site. Implementation methods are identified which ensure achievement of selected standards. Range equipment settings, observer and operator training, procedures adopted, storage controls, monitoring strategies, problem resolution strategies. Element 2 Apply and monitor quality crop harvesting and packaging practices according to industry standards. Performance criteria 2.1 Planned quality procedures are implemented before and during harvest period. 2.2 Achievement of defined quality requirements is monitored, and problem resolution strategies are implemented where required. 2.3 Procedures adopted incorporate revised and new standards imposed by workplace procedures, enabling requirements to be met without delay to harvesting and packaging. 2.4 Levels of quality control achieved optimise product grading, and ensure product dispatched from the site meets identified quality standards. 2.5 Quality control of product is monitored and recorded over the seasonal harvesting of the crop. Range written documentation for a minimum period of four consecutive weeks. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
