People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare and paint wooden and metal surfaces of horticultural property structures; carry out elementary repairs and maintenance to a water supply on a horticultural property; and repair minor damage to building cladding. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22176 version 1 Page 2 of 3 Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Prepare and paint wooden and metal surfaces of horticultural property structures. Range wooden surfaces include but are not limited to – timber cladding on building walls, doors, greenhouses, glasshouses, shadehouses, windows, fences; metal surfaces include but are not limited to – frames and chassis for machines and equipment, metal casements, roofs, flashing, guttering, spouting; evidence is required for two wooden and two metal surfaces. Performance criteria 1.1 Surfaces are prepared for painting. 1.2 Paint is applied uniformly and without spillage or undue wastage of materials. 1.3 Equipment is cleaned after use to restore it to usable condition, and materials are correctly resealed and stored. 1.4 The site is tidied so that other work can proceed unimpeded. Element 2 Carry out elementary repairs and maintenance to a water supply on a horticultural property. Performance criteria 2.1 A range of water pipe joins is completed according to manufacturer’s directions. Range polyethylene and PVC piping. 2.2 A washer is fitted to a tap, ball valve or simple drinking assembly according to manufacturer’s directions. 2.3 Water leaks are identified and repaired. Element 3 Repair minor damage to building cladding. Range one type of each of – weatherboard, galvanised iron sheets, building panels. Performance criteria 3.1 Repair tools are used safely and without damage. 3.2 Replacement cladding is secure, weather resistant, and united with existing cladding in a uniform way without hazardous snags. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
