Explanatory notes 1 All work practices must meet enterprise health and safety requirements. 2 Definitions Enterprise – an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place, and/or where the trainee is employed. Enterprise procedure – actions which comply with the policies, systems, and directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent amendments. Advanced injection mould refers to a two or three plate mould with one or more product forming components which: move in a direction other than the mould open axis, and/or are driven by the mould rather than external actuation, and/or incorporates in-mould labelling technology. Excludes moulds which retain molten material within the mould between cycles. Typical features may include: sliding blocks or cores actuated by skew pins or cams; baffled, spiral, tube, and heat pipe cooling systems; rising cores; internally actuated unscrewing systems. Evidence requirements 1.1 Injection mould construction is described. 1.2 Injection mould functions and operations are described. Range functions and operations may include – injection, cooling, opening, ejection, closing, electrical sensing and/or interlocking; evidence is required for at least five. Outcome 2 Service advanced injection moulds. Range evidence is required for two moulds with different configurations. Evidence requirements 2.1 Injection mould is opened on a bench in accordance with enterprise procedure. 2.2 Injection mould is inspected for wear, cleaned, and any damage is reported, in accordance with enterprise procedures. 2.3 Injection mould lubrication is carried out in accordance with enterprise schedule. 2.4 Injection mould closing-up procedures are performed in accordance with enterprise requirements.
