All work practices must meet enterprise health and safety requirements.

Definitions
Enterprise – an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place,
and/or where the trainee is employed.
Enterprise procedure – actions which comply with the policies, systems, and
directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the
requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent
amendments.
Simple injection moulds refers to a two or three plate mould including any ejection
system operating in the mould open axis, but excluding moulds with molten material
retained within the mould between cycles. Products are simple, straight drawn items.
Typical features may include: force, cavity, back plates, support plates; cold runner,
sprue, nozzle seat, locating ring; tab, sub, fan, diaphragm and direct gating; ejector
pins and sleeves, ejector plate and stripper plate; part line and pin venting; simple
drillings for mould cooling.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Remove, fit, and set simple injection moulds.
Range
evidence is required for two simple injection moulds with different dimensions,
configurations, and set-up criteria.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The injection moulding machine is prepared for a mould change in accordance
with enterprise procedure.
1.2
Moulds are prepared for removal and fitting in accordance with enterprise
procedure.
1.3
Tools for mould changing are selected in accordance with enterprise
requirements.
1.4
Mould changes are carried out in accordance with enterprise procedure.
1.5
Nozzle is removed, cleaned, and refitted in accordance with enterprise
procedures.
1.6
The injection moulding machine is set to job specification and in accordance
with enterprise procedure.
1.7
First off sample is made to confirm correction operation in accordance with
enterprise procedures.
1.8
The principal effects of shrinkage, venting, gate location, and cooling on mould
design and construction are described.
Outcome 2
Select, set up, and operate ancillary equipment.
Range
ancillary equipment includes but is not limited to – screw cutters, conveyers,
mound temperature controller, in mould labelling, hot runner controller, colour
dosing or material mixer, hopper loaders, hopper dryers, take out devices,
granulators.
evidence is required for at least three types of ancillary equipment.

Ancillary equipment is selected in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Ancillary equipment is set up in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Ancillary equipment is operated in accordance with enterprise procedure.
