NZQA Expiring unit standard 3240 version 6 Page 1 of 3 Title Install mechanical services plant to plans and specifications under supervision Level 2 Credits 6 Purpose This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work, in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector of the engineering industry. People credited with this unit standard are able, under supervision, to: procure materials for installing mechanical services plant; set out a job; and fit the plant. Classification Mechanical Engineering > Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Available grade Achieved Entry information Critical health and safety prerequisites Open, however, it is recommended that people undertaking this unit standard have already demonstrated competence in materials handling, mechanical services plant, and fitting and rigging mechanical services plant. Explanatory notes 1 Mechanical services plant includes heating plant, ventilation plant, air conditioning plant, potable hot and cold water plant, steam and condensate systems plant, gases systems plant, industrial liquids plant and chilled water plant. 2 For credit, evidence must be gained of meeting the required standard in three different plants. 3 Work site documents include contracts, drawings and any documented installation for the mechanical service to be installed. 4 All work site practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented safety procedures and safety plans (where these exceed code) for personal and work site safety, and obligations required under current legislation. 5 Installation programme refers to any documented programme for installing the system (eg, a construction programme). Evidence requirements 1.1 Materials required for job match work site documents and supervisor’s instructions. 1.2 Quantities of materials requisitioned and received are checked against inventory and verified with supervisor. 1.3 Setting out of job is in accordance with work site documents and supervisor’s instructions. 1.4 Installation of plant is coordinated with other trades and confirmed with supervisor. Range building, water, gas, electricity, plumbing. Outcome 2 Install mechanical services plant. Evidence requirements 2.1 Plant is positioned and secured in accordance with work site documents and supervisor’s instructions. 2.2 Installation of plant is completed without unplanned cost or waste. 2.3 Installation of plant is completed so that commissioning and maintenance can be carried out without alteration to installation. 2.4 Installation of plant is completed so that control instructions and identifications can be read. 2.5 Installation of plant is completed so that conflicts with other plant or systems or components have been resolved. 2.6 Installation meets installation programme schedule requirements. 2.7 Installed plant has no leakage of air, liquid or gas. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place before the expiry date set out below.
