New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 11794 version 4 Page 2 of 4 3 Evidence of the elements of this unit standard must be present across the following contexts: a systems – AC/DC generation, distribution and reticulation systems; electrical vessel control and monitoring systems; marine electronic systems including communications, navigation, hydro acoustics and entertainment systems; evidence is required for one. b equipment – electrical includes pumps, generators, batteries and electrical equipment attached to other systems, such as engines; electronic includes all communications, navigation, hydro acoustic, entertainment and electronic equipment attached to other systems, such as engines; evidence is required for one. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Establish installation requirements. Performance criteria 1.1 Installation position is located in accordance with job requirements and owner’s requests. 1.2 Position is checked to ensure the boat’s integrity is not compromised. 1.3 Position enables the subsequent attachment of any associated systems. Range electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic. 1.4 Installation follows system drawings, job instructions and company procedures. 1.5 Materials and equipment are selected to meet job requirements. Element 2 Run cabling. Performance criteria 2.1 Areas established to run cables match commissioning plan. 2.2 Fixing, fastenings, cable types and current ratings match requirements of the cables being used. 2.3 Cables are run according to company procedures and/or regulatory requirements. Performance criteria 3.1 Mounting requirements are identified according to company procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations. 3.2 Hardware and fastenings are selected in accordance with substrate materials and to meet job requirements for durability and appearance. 3.3 Equipment is mounted to manufacturer’s and/or boatbuilder’s specifications. 3.4 Equipment is connected to cabling and systems to manufacturer’s specifications. Element 4 Check and static test the installation. Performance criteria 4.1 Equipment and/or systems are identified in terms of static testing installations. 4.2 All circuits are static tested with a multimeter to ensure they meet test requirements. Element 5 Complete documentation. Performance criteria 5.1 Installation documentation is completed to company and/or regulatory requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
