Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of: pasture and supplement supply and demand,
and the use of supplements, for a chosen livestock farming
operation; the components, use, and digestibility of livestock
feeds; grazing systems; the conservation and use of pasture
surpluses; and perform calculations.

Components of livestock feeds are described in relation to their value to
livestock.

Livestock use of feed is described in relation to producing energy, growth,
reproduction, production, and maintenance of normal body processes.
2.3
Digestibility of feed is defined and described in terms of its energy value
available to the animal for production and maintenance.

Animal requirements for maintenance and production are differentiated in terms
of the contribution of energy value of feeds.
