This unit standard is 3 Assessment For the purposes of assessment against element 2, the use of nitrogen and/or expiring supplements is not required. 4 Fodder crop refers to a crop that is harvested as a supplement for either storage or direct feeding to stock. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe a seasonal feed budget for different classes of livestock for a period of three months. Evidence requirements 1.1 Feed budget is described in terms of feed required to achieve animal production targets for the given period. Range stored feed, average pasture cover, pasture and/or crop growth. 1.3 Feed budget is described in terms of the feed required to achieve animal production targets taking into consideration animal requirements and amount of feed on hand. 1.4 Shortfalls in feed required to reach animal production targets are described in terms of likely solutions. 1.5 Feed surplus is described in terms of strategies for management to achieve current and future animal production targets. Outcome 2 Describe the selection of a fodder crop and management of pasture surplus or deficit. Evidence requirements 2.1 A fodder crop or feed supplement is selected which meets animal and farm requirements. Range 2.2 time of year, period of feed, stock to be fed, area available, expected quality and yield. The management of pasture surplus and deficit are described in terms of feed allocation to meet animal and pasture targets. Range management of surplus includes but is not limited to – conservation of supplements, deferred grazing, increase stocking rate; management of deficit includes but is not limited to – feeding supplements, applying nitrogen; decreasing stocking rate: cull, graze off-farm. This unit standard is expiring Outcome 3 Perform calculations. Evidence requirements 3.1 Feed stored is calculated. Range one of – stack, haybarn, tube. 3.2 Storage area required for a given amount of feed to be harvested or purchased is calculated. 3.3 Quantity of feed in a standing crop is calculated.
