NZQF Ref Version 1831 Page 1 of 4 1 National Certificate in Drainlaying (Design, Management and Supervision) (Level 5) Level 5 Credits 86 Purpose The purpose of this qualification is to provide the construction industry with individuals who have knowledge and practical skills to design and certify drainage systems. The qualification is a prerequisite to registration with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board as a certifying drainlayer, therefore it is comprised of compulsory standards. A certifying drainlayer is responsible for ensuring both their own work, and the work of anyone they supervise is done competently. This qualification recognises a range of design, management and supervision competencies in the drainlaying trade. Holders of this qualification are able to design drainage systems, manage and coordinate with other building services the installation of drainage systems, supervise drainlaying staff, access and apply relevant legislation, apply conservation and environmentally considerate processes in the design of drainage systems, and cost jobs for drainage systems. This qualification leads on from the National Certificate in Drainlaying (Installation) (Level 4) [Ref: 0077]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award.
