4. List and briefly describe the MEASURES that will be used to assess each
learning outcome.
1. In-Course Assessment
Each core class is responsible for specific MBA learning objectives (a grid matches learning
objectives to courses).
2. Teaching and Student Portfolios
Professors of MBA Core courses are responsible for accumulating a teaching/student portfolio of
everything related to their core course (syllabus, handouts, assignments, etc.) along with a sample
copy of student work (including tests, projects, etc.). The student work is a sample only and
should have nothing on it that identifies the student.
3. Embedded Questions
Questions are developed by the MBA Core Faculty Group for each learning outcome for each
core course. These questions will be embedded in course exams each quarter that the course is
taught.
4. Exit Interviews
Written exit interviews of each graduating student will be completed during the student’s final
quarter. These interviews will survey the perceptions of the student with regard to the preparation
that the program provided them for the learning outcomes.
5. Focus Groups
Focus groups of students will be conducted every other year to gain the perceptions of students
with regard to the program’s ability to provide the learning outcomes.
5. Describe how learning outcomes are made MEASURABLE and
BENCHMARKS or other determinants of success are set.
1. A criteria-based evidence scale, developed by the MBA Core Faculty Group, is used for
judging learning outcomes exhibited in teaching portfolios and student portfolio samples
for each core course.
2. A compilation of multiple choice questions and their answers, developed by the MBA
Core Faculty Group, is used for selection of embedded questions for each learning
outcome for each course. The initial annual goal is to have 80% of the students get 70%
of the questions correct.

3. A report form, developed by the MBA Core Faculty Group, categorizes answers to the
written exit interview questions in relation to the students’ perceptions of the program’s
ability to provide the learning outcomes. The results will also be compared year-overyear for changes in perceptions of the program.
4. The results of the focus groups will be analyzed in relation to the perceptions of the
program’s ability to provide the learning outcomes and in comparison to perceptions of
the prior year.
6. Describe the process by which FINDINGS will be derived from the measures.
1. The teaching portfolio for each core class will be sent by the professor to the Associate
Dean of the graduate program by April 1 of each year. The portfolio will then become
part of the MBA program portfolio of all courses. The Associate Dean will send the
entire program portfolio to the MBA Core Faculty Group who will evaluate it in relation
to the criteria developed for the learning outcomes. The results will be summarized in a
report.
2. The embedded questions for each class will be evaluated and the grades will be compiled
and summarized by the professor and sent to the Associate Dean for aggregation into a
summary report. The Associate Dean will send the summary report to the MBA Core
Faculty Group.
3. The MBA program administrators will compile and summarize the results of the exit
interviews into a report. Year-over-year comparisons will be included in the report. This
report will be sent to the MBA Core Faculty Group.
4. The MBA program administrators will receive the report of the focus group and write an
addendum comparing the results to the prior year. This report will be sent to the MBA
Core Faculty Group.

7. Describe the process by which findings are analyzed to determine what
IMPROVEMENTS should be made to better meet objectives and learning
outcomes.
1.
Each faculty member who has taught an MBA core course during the year will submit to
the MBA Core Faculty Group a paragraph describing his/her analysis and evaluation of
his/her core class(es) in meeting the needs of the students with regard to the learning
outcomes, as well as any plans for improvement.
2. The MBA Core Faculty Group will analyze the MBA program portfolio report and make
recommendations for improvement. These results and recommendations will become part
of the annual assessment report sent to the Graduate Programs Committee for
consideration and approval.
3. The MBA Core Faculty Group will analyze the summary report of the embedded
questions. The results of the report will be included in the Annual Assessment report
along with any recommendations for improvement.
4. The MBA Core Faculty Group will analyze the report of the exit interviews related to the
perceptions of students regarding the program’s ability to provide the learning outcomes.
The conclusions from the report will be considered in the plans for continuous
improvement of the curriculum and included in the Annual Assessment report sent to the
Graduate Programs Committee for consideration and approval.
5. The MBA Core Faculty Group will analyze the focus group report in relation to the
perceptions of students regarding the program’s ability to provide the learning outcomes.
The conclusions from the report will be considered in the plans for continuous
improvement of the curriculum and included in the Annual Assessment Report sent to the
Graduate Programs Committee for consideration and approval.
6.
The Annual Assessment Report includes recommendations of the MBA Core Faculty
Group based on the findings from alumni surveys, employment data, student exit
interviews, focus groups, analysis of the teaching/student portfolio, and other
miscellaneous reports regarding the MBA program. This report will be sent to the
Graduate Programs Committee for consideration and approval.

8. Identify a TIMETABLE for assessment.
1. The AACSB accreditation cycle is the shortest accreditation cycle so the MBA
program is on a 5-year cycle. 2004 is the first year of the cycle. The first interim report
is due on January 15, 2006.
a. The first focus group to examine student perceptions regarding learning outcomes
will be completed in the spring of 2005.
b. Exit interviews, embedded question reports, and in-course assessments are completed
each quarter and reported annually with analysis completed by Fall.
c. Alumni surveys and focus groups will be conducted every two years beginning in
spring 2005.
d. Teaching/student portfolios will be analyzed annually beginning 2005.
e. Although the MBA program is being revised and a new curriculum will not be
in place until Sept. 2005, learning objectives #1 and #3 can be assessed by Fall of
2005. Learning objectives #2 and #4 will be assessed by Fall of 2005 or Fall of 2006,
depending on the curriculum changes.
2.
An assessment report is submitted annually to the administration. For the Fall 2004
assessment report, results from exit interviews will be included.
9. Briefly explain how the program’s assessment plan supports and interacts
with ACCREDITATION and LICENSURE requirements.
Both the NCA and the AACSB accreditations require learning outcomes and measurement of
those outcomes with timetables. They also require results of assessment and plans for
improvement.
10. Describe how the objectives and learning outcomes of the program are
COMMUNICATED to students and others.
1. An MBA curriculum brochure will describe the program objectives, learning
outcomes, and courses and provide information to manage the expectations of the
entering student.
2.
Course Syllabi describe learning outcomes for the course and how they will be
measured.
3.
Assessment reports will be shared with students, alumni, faculty and other
stakeholders.
