Challenges and Issues Facing Peralta CCD and the Next Chancellor
Fiscal Challenges – Restoring the fiscal integrity of the district
Building a district budget that supports the colleges in an era of diminishing state support
Strong advocate for PCCD with federal, state and local legislators, active in the political arena
Strengthen PCCD’s involvement in workforce development
Be open to the private sector and seeking funds for PCCD from that arena
Using technology to solve district problems
Working with a Board that often micro-manages
Restoring open communication and transparency in decision-making
Restoring trust
Creating a district operation that is supportive of the colleges
Effectively representing PCCD and building bridges with the communities served by the district
Strengthening ties with local K-12 districts
Ability to build bridges to the local communities
Develop a district culture where the highest priority is on student success
Rebuilding PCCD as a district with a shared vision and mission
Ensuring that district operations maximize resources to support instructional and student support services throughout the district
Create an appropriate balance between services for district students and international students
Restoring PCCD to good standing with the Accreditation Commission
Create clear communication across the district regarding budget expenditures, mission and vision of the district
Create concrete, achievable goals for the district and colleges based on up to date data, planning meetings with faculty, staff and administration in the colleges
Establish a district wide ethic of excellence, respect and commitment to our communities and each other
Raise the level of connectedness and participation of all constituents within the district in the on-going planning and life of the district and colleges
Be able to connect with the different constituents in our communities including students (e.g. basic skills, business and corporations, seniors, transfer students, vocational students, etc.)
Consider expanding the Peralta online course offerings to meet the demand
