Purpose
This qualification is suitable for people entering the agriculture industry with limited
industry-specific skills.
This is a stranded qualification designed to meet the needs of agricultural sectors – cattle
farming, dairy farming, deer farming, and sheep farming. Skills and knowledge required
for each of the strands are specific to that particular farming sector.
The compulsory section includes the skills related to livestock grazing management and
feeding, livestock checking and handling, installation and dismantling of electric fences,
and handling wire, tools and equipment for fencing.
There are 2 elective sections. Elective 1 is organised into sets and recognises the
variations amongst farms in the use of agricultural vehicles such as tractors, motorcycles,
All Terrain Vehicle Utilities (ATVU), and All Terrain Vehicles (ATV). Each set contains the
prerequisite standards for practical tractor, motorcycle, ATVU, or ATV riding or driving.
People must select at least one of the sets relevant to their own farming situation. Elective
2 allows people to choose one of a variety of standards related to a range of farm skills.
On completion of this qualification people can progress to one or more of the following:
 National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Feeding and Pastures) (Level 3) [Ref: 1435];
 National Certificate in Agriculture (Cattle Breeding) (Level 3) with strands in Beef Cattle
Farming, and Dairy Cattle Farming [Ref: 1436];
 National Certificate in Agriculture (Stockperson – Cattle and Sheep) (Level 3)
[Ref: 1437];
 National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Health and Husbandry) (Level 3) with strands
in Cattle Farming, and Sheep Farming [Ref: 1438];
 National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Milking) (Level 3) [Ref: 1440];
 National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Animal Health and Husbandry) (Level 3)
[Ref: 1441];
 National Certificate in Deer Farming (Level 3) [Ref: 1442];
 National Certificate in Sheep Farming (Sheep Breeding) (Level 3) [Ref: 1443].

http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
