NZQA registered unit standard 26470 version 1 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of and provide flight options and fare quotes for air travel using the Internet Level 4 Credits 4 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of using the Internet for booking air travel; and establish customer requirements, source information, and provide flight options and fare quotes for airlines using the Internet. Classification Tourism > Travel Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Travel industry workplace policies and procedures refer to documented instructions about workplace expectations, these must include but are not limited to – customer service delivery, personal presentation, legislation, organisational structure, business objectives. Carrier type refers to low cost carriers and full service carriers. 2 For the purpose of this unit standard airlines used must be those that are unable to be booked through a global distribution system (GDS). 3 This unit standard may be assessed against in a travel industry workplace when appropriate situations arise, or in a training environment if simulated workplace conditions are able to be provided that reflect the standard of a travel industry workplace. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of using the Internet for booking air travel. Evidence requirements 1.1 Airlines unable to be booked via a GDS and their websites are identified in accordance with travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range ServiceIQ SSB Code 9068 evidence is required for two different airlines. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 1.2 Airlines unable to be booked via a GDS are identified in terms of carrier type, and any affiliations are explained in accordance with airline information and travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range 1.3 must include but is not limited to – on-ground services and/or facilities, in-flight services and/or facilities. The risks of booking air travel via the Internet for a travel consultant are explained. Range 1.5 evidence is required for the two airlines identified in evidence requirement 1.1. Differences between airlines able to be booked via a GDS and airlines only able to be booked via the Internet are explained. Range 1.4 26470 version 1 Page 2 of 3 must include but is not limited to – currency of payment, currency fluctuations, air fares including taxes and air fares excluding taxes according to the direction of travel, extra charges, schedule changes. Surcharges, and terms and conditions applied by airlines only able to be booked via the Internet are explained in accordance with airline information and travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range must include but is not limited to – baggage checked-in online, baggage checked-in over the counter, specifying the number of bags at time of booking, seating allocations, insurance. Outcome 2 Establish customer requirements, source information, and provide flight options and fare quotes using the Internet. Range evidence is required for two different airlines. Evidence requirements 2.1 Airlines unable to be booked via a GDS are accessed via the Internet, information is sourced and flight options and fare quotes are prepared in accordance with customer requirements and travel industry workplace policies and procedures. 2.2 Flight options, fare quotes, and a summary of the fare rules are explained to the customer in accordance with airline information and travel industry workplace policies and procedures. Range ServiceIQ SSB Code 9068 must include but is not limited to – reservation and ticketing conditions, refund and/or amendment conditions, baggage conditions. Range may include but is not limited to – taxes, baggage charges, meal charges, charges for seating allocation prior to check-in, insurance. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
