Glossary of terms used in this unit standard
Hull – the structure of the boat, the sheathing material, and all components
permanently bonded to that structure;
Components – decks, cabins and all other timber and fibreglass parts required for
structural integrity;
Systems – plumbing, mechanical, electrical, electronic, deck hardware, sails, spars
and rigging.

Hull is inspected internally and externally to identify defects that do not meet
regulatory and/or customer requirements.

Components are inspected to identify defects that do not meet regulatory and/or
customer requirements.

inspection criteria – water tight, corrosion, surface coatings,
system type, wear, connections, routing, attachments.
Boats are inspected to identify deterioration in terms of age and condition.

inspection criteria – water tight, corrosion, surface coatings, wear,
ventilation, delamination, stress cracking, disbonding, erosion.
Systems are inspected to identify defects that do not meet regulatory and/or
customer requirements.

inspection criteria – water tight, erosion, surface coatings,
osmosis, delamination and/or voiding, moisture content, damage,
adhesion, wear, stress and fatigue, cracking, curing.
inspection criteria – water tight, timber deterioration, corrosion,
surface coatings, ventilation, construction type, delamination
and/or voiding, fastenings and/or bonding, damage.
Boats are inspected to ensure suitability for intended purpose.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
