Hull
– the structure of the boat, the sheathing material, and all components permanently fastened to that structure;
Components – decks, cabins and all other timber parts required for structural integrity;
Systems – plumbing, mechanical, electrical, electronic deck hardware, sails, spars and rigging.

Element 1
Identify defects in timber boats.
Performance criteria
1.1 Hull is inspected internally and externally to identify defects that do not meet regulatory and/or customer requirements.
Range inspection criteria – water tight, timber deterioration, corrosion, surface coatings, ventilation, construction type, delamination and/or voiding, fastenings and/or bonding, damage.
1.2 Components are inspected to identify defects that do not meet regulatory and/or customer requirements.
Range inspection criteria – water tight, timber deterioration, corrosion, surface coatings, ventilation, construction type, delamination and/or voiding, wear, damage.
1.3 Systems are inspected to identify defects that do not meet regulatory and/or customer requirements.
Range inspection criteria – system integrity, corrosion, surface coatings, system type, wear, connections, routing, attachments.
1.4 Boats are inspected to identify deterioration in terms of age and condition.
Range inspection criteria
– water tight, timber deterioration, corrosion, surface coatings, ventilation, construction type, delamination and/or voiding, fastenings and/or bonding, damage.
1.5 Boats are inspected to ensure suitability for intended purpose.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
