People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare
for a strategic planning session; participate in the logistics
strategic planning process; and provide recommendations for
logistics strategy and policy development.

Definitions
Organisational procedures refer to formally documented
instructions in the workplace which are available to
candidates, providers, and assessors.
Stakeholders are individuals and groups which have a direct
interest in the organisation, its products and/or services.
Stakeholders typically include customers, employees,
managers, owners and shareholders.
A distribution centre is a facility where customer orders are
processed and normally includes the facility to store,
although product does not necessarily go into storage.

The theory and practice of strategic planning is explained in terms of strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats; core competencies; competitive
advantage; situation analysis; and force field analysis.
2.2
Knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of strategic planning is
demonstrated while participating in logistics strategic planning activities.
Range:
one planning activity topic of - distribution centre numbers and
functions, distribution centre equipment, distribution channels,
customer service support, inventory, information technology.
2.3
Presentation of analysis of possible strategies and/or policy options is clear,
concise, and accurate.
2.4
Participation in strategic planning discussions is constructive and assists
decision making.

Recommendations are based on valid data analysis and supported by research.
3.2
Recommendations are documented clearly and concisely and presented in a
