NZQA Expiring unit standard 16956 version 4 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of force and stress in fabrications Level 4 Credits Purpose 4 This unit standard is for use in training of fabrication trades and covers knowledge of forces and stresses in fabrications. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the effects of forces on fabrications; and of stress in fabrications. Classification Mechanical Engineering > Engineering - Fabrication Available grade Achieved Entry information Recommended: Unit 16955, Calculate sizes, mass, volumes, and quantities for fabrication, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Recommended skills and knowledge Explanatory notes For assessment purposes, values referred to in this unit standard will be expressed in Systeme Internationale (SI) units including multiples and sub-multiples (micro, milli, kilo, etc). Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the effects of forces on fabrications. Range evidence of 3 unique projects is required. Evidence requirements 1.1 The type and magnitude of forces acting on members are identified from the applied loads. Range Competenz SSB Code 101571 forces are limited to simple cases of tensile and compressive force. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 1.2 16956 version 4 Page 2 of 3 The nature and magnitude of forces are determined for simple systems. simple systems are – lever systems, counterweights, clamping arrangements. Range Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of stress in fabrications. Range evidence of 3 unique projects is required. Evidence requirements 2.1 The type and magnitude of stresses present in – structural members are established from the applied forces. Range 2.2 stresses are limited to simple cases of tensile and compressive stress. Punching forces are calculated for fabricated metals in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 16956 version 4 Page 3 of 3 to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
