People credited with this standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of stain types and removal methods; prepare equipment and worksite; remove an identifiable stain; remove an unidentifiable stain; and complete job-related tasks. Classification Cleaning and Caretaking > Cleaning Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply with the requirements of: Employment Relations Act 2000; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act 1991. 2 Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. 3 Definitions A stain is defined as foreign material (soil, liquid, etc) on a fabric or material that is not removable by standard cleaning methods. This also includes discolouration occurring in or on a fabric or material or any colour other that the natural colour of the fabric or material (ie, red stain, black stain). Flat mop is a type of microfibre mop and can be used in a wet or dry condition. Mop refers to either a string/cotton, sponge or microfibre type, or a flat mop. Industry best practice refers to any enterprise and/or establishment requirements, practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards. Evidence requirements 1.1 Methods used for identifying stain types are described with reference to flooring surface. Range sight, colour, odour, feel, location, occupational site, stain removal chart. 1.2 Potential problems of common stains on hard floors are described. 1.3 Methods of removal of stains are identified for types of stain and flooring surface. Range absorption, solvent action, agitation, enzyme digestion, chemical action (water-based, solvent-based, or co-solvent). Outcome 2 Prepare equipment and worksite. Evidence requirements 2.1 Selected equipment is clean and in working condition. Range 2.2 mop, bucket, stain removal kit, stain removal chart, clothes, tissues. Warning signs are displayed in accordance with industry best practice. Range at least one of – signs, cordons, barriers. 2.3 Ventilation of area ensures comfort and safety of cleaner and public. 2.4 Personal protective equipment is worn at all times during stain removal operations. Range gloves, overalls/uniform, respiratory protection. Outcome 3 Remove an identifiable stain. Evidence requirements 3.1 Method of removal chosen is consistent with requirements of stain and flooring surface in accordance with industry best practice. Replacement information This unit standard, unit standard 1570, unit standard 1576 and unit standard 13347 were replaced by unit standards 29383 and 29386. This unit standard is expiring.
